Minister for the Department, Isle of Man Department of Economic Development

Laurence was elected to the House of Keys in 2011 and was appointed Minister for the Department of Economic Development in July 2014.

The Department of Economic Development was created to encourage an environment that allows businesses to thrive and flourish. The Department is responsible for the promotion of a number of alternative finance initiatives, including a £50 million Enterprise Development Scheme, new crowdfunding legislation, an Alternative Banking Regime and the development of local Angel networks.

As Minister for the Department, Laurence supports the Island’s business community through the development of pioneering initiatives and legislation. Laurence also represents the Isle of Man internationally, promoting the Island’s strong business offering to companies, associations and working closely with other governments.

An entrepreneur himself, prior to becoming a Member of the House of Keys, Laurence has been in business in a number of sectors both on Island and internationally including travel and tourism, e-business, wholesale and event management. In his spare time he enjoys travel, walking, golf, culture and the arts.
